The Salton Sea is not a natural water feature. Water inflows are limited to agricultural runoff, which does not provide a constant inflow of fresh cold water. The Salton Sea is located over 200 feet below sea level in a desert in Southern California. The water gets quite warm. As water heats up, it can hold less dissolved oxygen. Guess what fish breathe?
